Life Force Ideas Around the World

Here are the Y entries of life energy beliefs around the world and from antiquity to the present. An edited and expanded version of this Life Energy A to Z is published in my book Life Energy Encyclopedia.

Y

Yari is a deity on Tobi island in Micronesia, in th religion that legend claims was introduced by visitors to the island. Yari can also mean the spirit of an ancient hero. It is sometimes mentioned as a synonym to life energy such as qi, which is doubtful.

Yesod (Hebrew for 'base') is the 9th sefirot (from the Hebrew sappir, sapphire) on the Tree of Life, the basic cosmological diagram of Kabbalah. Yesod stands for pure life, in the meaning untarnished or cleansed. The parallel to life energy such as qi lies in yesod describing God's essence, the divine life force that permeates all of creation. Closer to the life energy, though, is the Hebrew concept ruach (see this word). See also neutral force.
